Inside the Atlantic Wall Tour Overview

Inside the Atlantic Wall Tour is an incredible journey to the forgotten sites of Hitler's Atlantic Wall; peppered with some incredible World War II sites and other cultural and historical treasures.

The tour starts and finishes in Paris, as most of the locations are along the French coastline. Our new Tour begins with the tragic Fall of France; including visits to the site of the two Armistices (in 1918 and 1940) at Compiègne, and the beaches of Dunkirk - where Operation Dynamo took place (the successful evacuation of over 360,000 allied troops across the Channel to England). We will visit the coastal town of Dieppe - the site of the Canadian Raid in August 1942, and we will Tour the command bunker for the Calais Sector of the Atlantic Wall.

One of the early highlights of the trip will be a Guided Tour of the Atlantikwall Raverseyde Museum at Oostende, Belgium - with over 60 bunkers, observation posts, and artillery positions and open or underground corridors, this site is one of the best preserved parts of the infamous German Atlantic Wall in all of Europe. Our Tour includes time at both the Battery Saltzwedel-Neu (WWII), and at the Aachen Battery - the only preserved German coastal battery dating from the First World War. We will include a stop at the Atlantic Wall Museum "Battery Todt", which boasts the only K5 Krupp railborne artillery gun in Europe (one of only two in the world). Among other highlights, this trip will include a Guided Tour of the "Keroman" Submarine Pens at Lorient and the base at Saint-Nazaire. Go inside the pens and explore these massive, preserved U-Boat Fortresses on the Atlantic Coast.

Have you ever been to the Channel Islands? It's the only part of Great Britain that was actually occupied by the Germans during World War II! From June 30, 1940 to May 9, 1945, this little group of British islands off the Cherbourg Peninsula was completely under German control - and due to their proximity to France and England, Hitler ordered the islands to be heavily fortified. Because the Channel Islands were never destroyed and no great battles were fought there, we will see some of the best examples of German coastal fortifications in the world during our stay on the island of Guernsey. We'll also have stops in Normandy, to see where the Allies breached the Atlantic Wall - but we plan to take you to some lesser known locations like Crisbecq Battery and the Radar Museum (as most of our past travelers have already seen the D-Day landing beaches in Normandy).
