Wolf's Lair Tour
Alpventures Wolf's Lair Tour features include lots of time at Hitler's wartime headquarters, the Wolf's Lair near Rastenburg (Ketrzyn, Poland); and other World War II sites in Warsaw, Krakow, Auschwitz, and Waldenburg, Poland.
The Wolfs Lair Tour follows the story of the July 20, 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler's life. The Tour also includes many World War II historical sites in Berlin, Germany. Hitler spent nearly half of World War II (over 800 days) at 'Wolfsschanze' (Wolf's Lair) compound near Rastenburg, which by 1942 contained as many as 80 buildings housing over 2,000 employees including massive bunkers for Goering, Bormann and Hitler among others. We spend two days at Wolfsschanze and the additional OKH (Oberkommando des Heeres) Headquarters at nearby Mauerwald.
We'll spend two great nights in fascinating Warsaw to discover the story of its past and the echoes of its Uprisings. This Tour includes two days in beautiful Krakow; where we will visit many sites connected to Oscar Schindler, such as the former Enamel Factory that was run by Schindler during World War II. Our hotel near the spectacular Old Town of Krakow, allows us the convenience of exploring the town and its history by night.
We will spend a sobering day visiting the museum, memorials and crematoria at Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camps. These were the most infamous Nazi Death camps in the world: Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II - Birkenau, where over 1.2 million people were murdered in the gas chambers. The Wolf's Lair Tour also includes a visit to one of the 'Project RIESE' Bunkers near Waldenburg (Walbrzych), deep in the mountains of southern Poland. Here we will visit Hitler's forgotten bunkers, underground passages that were part of the Nazi secret "Riese" project.
Next, we will stop at the infamous 'Great Escape' POW Camp (Stalag Luft III) in Zagan to explore the site of the so-called "Great Escape" on March 24 - 25, 1944. We conclude with lots of World War II sites and historical locations dealing with the Third Reich in Berlin, including the Bendlerblock, where Stauffenberg and other members of the German Resistance ultimately met their fate. We will also enjoy some free time in Berlin, where we will wrap-up our historical journey and spend our last evening together enjoying our farewell dinner and reflecting on our travels. Book now to join our 2-week World War II Tour to Poland - including three exciting overnights in medieval castle hotels!
